There is plenty to see, do and experience in Bolzano this autumn. Various events are being organised and it is perfect weather for a nice autumn walk in the forest. When you end your walk in the forest at a 'buschenschank', you can discover the tradition of törggelen and enjoy delicious regional dishes.
Apfelfest - Festa delle mele
From 27 to 30 October 2022, the first Apple Festival will be held in Bolzano. At Piazza Walther, the various apple varieties are presented, as well as products resulting from apple processing. These include vinegar, gin, cosmetics and apple paper. In addition, you can taste matching dishes, enjoy musical events and there will be games and workshops for children.
Törggelen
Every year from October until the beginning of Advent, South Tyrol is dedicated to törggelen. The word 'törggelen' comes from the Latin 'torquere', meaning wine pressing. This tradition has a long history. Once upon a time, South Tyrolean farmers and wine merchants gathered in autumn to taste new wines. Today, torquere is a combination of autumn hiking and tasting South Tyrolean specialities. After a brisk walk, you can settle down with your family or friends for a meal at a traditional 'buschenschank' (farmers' pub serving their own wine). Of course, this should include a glass of new wine.
Local wine
Do you know the saying: 'Venice floats on water and Bolzano on wine'? Wine production in Bolzano has a very old tradition and today consists of almost 30 private wineries. In autumn, you can visit one of the wineries for a tour and tasting, such as Cantina Bolzano and Schmid Oberrautner. Check out the Bolzano Bozen website for all the events concerning the wine harvest.
Gravel - cycling
Bolzano is the cycling paradise in the heart of the Dolomites. Most mountain passes in the Dolomites are higher than 2,000 metres. There are both easy and difficult climbs. Around Bolzano you will also find many gravel roads, but you just have to know where. Check out some challenging gravel routes at Komoot.
