Discover Danish Wheelness: Health and Happiness on a Bicycle!

Ontdek Danish Wheelness: Gezondheid en Geluk op de Fiets!

Did you know that Denmark has been at the top of the happiness rankings for years? The secret? Danish Wheelness, wellness on two wheels.

Denmark proudly introduces ‘Danish Wheelness’, a concept that combines cycling with the Danish concept of ‘hygge’ for a healthy and happy life. Cycling is not just a mode of transport, but a lifestyle that contributes to the well-being of Danes.

🔹 Cycling reduces the risk of premature death by 28%.
🔹 Every day, Danes make around 2.2 million bicycle trips.
🔹 Cycling just 6 kilometres a day is enough to meet national physical activity recommendations.

Denmark offers some of the most diverse and accessible cycling experiences in Europe. From coastal routes to gourmet tours, each route shows a different side of Danish life.

  • Of Herregardsruten: mansion route, past grand castles and charming manor houses on the island of Funen (Fyn). You must have done this once.
  • Of Big Five on Fanø: Denmark has its own Big Five? No no elephant or rhinoceros beasts, but on Fanø, a 37km cycling route takes you past the island's five highest dunes, with spectacular views along the way.
  • Panoramic Route 421 on the island of Møn passes through UNESCO biosphere landscapes and leads to Møn's striking white cliffs.
  • Of Best of the West Route in Jutland follows wide beaches and shifting dunes along the north-west coast to the iconic lighthouse of Rubjerg Knude.
  • Of Baltic Sea Cycle Route (N8): This tour offers more than just beautiful scenery - it is a journey through history and culture, passing Kolding and the UNESCO town of Christiansfeld. This is also similar to the Eurovelo route.
  • Castle Route 48 connects Kronborg Castle and Frederiksborg Castle and runs through the UNESCO-protected hunting landscape Par Force in North Sealand.
  • The Ice Age Route is designed for long-distance cyclists and stretches almost 400 kilometres (≈250 miles) through Zealand

Oh and as if it were not enough, Denmark is also picking up on the activation of Tour Start 2022. For the first time, 2025 saw the Copenhagen Sprint, a WorldTour-level race. That gets a follow-up this year, with both a men's and women's edition. Oh and you can also ride the route as a mere mortal, just ahead of the pros.
